Friends of Parkinson’s provides education

via several different formats and platforms all designed to bring the latest information and expertise to the community. From our highly technical Medical Symposiums to our lighthearted, Funny Bunny Race, we strive to reach the community where they are. For dates and more information check the calendar or specific event.

Medical Symposium

Medical professionals, patients and caregivers are introduced to the most current treatment options and research for Parkinson’s

Funny Bunny Race™

This annual all-day event brings families, friends, and the total community together for fun, learning, and to celebrate those with PD. We “Pack the Park” for Parkinson’s as we raise awareness through education about the new generation of those who will be affected by Parkinson’s disease.

Wellness Symposium

With the interest in non-medical treatment options, we provide information about “alternative” care. From cannabis to chakra balancing to vibration therapy to meditation, we want to make sure the member has the information to make informed decisions about care

Lunch and Learns

  • Monthly education for anyone interested in learning more about PD and the symptoms.

Petals for Parkinson’s™

The tulip has been associated with Parkinson’s Awareness since 1980 when J.W.S. VanderWereld, a Dutch horticulturalist diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, developed a red & white tulip to honor Dr. James Parkinson. We call on the community to plant one thousand tulip bulbs at the San Miguel Community Garden. It is an opportunity to educate by showing how using gardening as a therapeutic tool to improve motor skills in Parkinson’s disease.

Parkinsonian Newsletter

A monthly publication for the community that shares the latest updates, information, announcements, and events from the Friends of Parkinson’s nonprofit organization.
