Parkinson’s disease is a neurological disorder that affects the way you move. It happens when there is a problem with certain nerve cells in the brain. Parkinson’s is progressive, which means it gets worse over time. But usually this happens slowly, over many years. And there are good treatments that can help you live a full life. Abnormal genes seem to lead to Parkinson’s disease in some people. Recent studies indicate there may be a recessive genetic link that when isolated, could show indicators of possibly inherited traits. There have been indicators of effects of the environment and the loss of dopamine in the brain. Currently, Parkinson’s disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder and the most common movement disorder.
